looks like Lanta is the new hip place to be, maybe they blew up all those rocks that made the beaches unswimmable or what? in 2006 there wasn't a single proper sandy beach on that island where you could swim without kicking a rock. or boulders. ok, maybe one beach towards the southern tip. hardly any snorkelling near the shore. nice place, loved it, but top 10?

and Khao Lak must be the most uninspiring seaside in Thailand. no village or anything to speak of. just a beach with resorts. no culture, no people, nothing to do. not even bloody shade on that beach.

weird.

I have not been to Samui and Ko Phang Ngan, but.... I have big question marks there too.

I guess those voters can keep these places for themselves and let the rest of us go to the real nice places. :-)

These are all the great beach destinations and fabulous islands in Thailand which has been appreciated by most of the international travelers, due to their admiring beauty and splendid sightseeing attractions for sure.

The achievement is great, as a retiree of Thailand your coverage sucks. Why would you insinuate TAT didn't get it right ? Didn't you read it all or not understand it ?

"Thailand being awarded Top Asian Beach Destinations by the website Tripadvisor."

TAT reported exactly what happened, Thailand was awarded Top Asian Beach Destinations. (Four of them.)

Unless, you are reading something into it that is not there, they did not say they were the TOP beach destination.

I would agree with Richard in that I have seen the TAT having their spin doctors working overtime to make everything sound perfect. It isn't. Believe me. Their "Amazing Thailand" campaign is just not going to work this time. All of their wins in the top tens here are all second rate like Betti said. There are far better places out there that I have been to myself. But they are not promoted much. In my humble opinion, people like Richard have been doing a far better job than TAT in promoting these places that are not publicized by them or the guidebooks. I have been to some of the festivals that Richard has written about and had a really great time. On the other hand, nothing but silence from the TAT. Take a look at their website. The Thai section is far bigger than the English section. TAT need to wake up to this fact and start promoting Thailand in a more honest way.

Koh Samui has amazing beaches, if you are willing to get away from the tourist area of Chaweng. I lived there for 8 months enough time to explore on the moped. If you keep driving up the ring road towards Nathong you'll fine some beautiful isolated and empty beaches. Clean, clear and quiet waters. You just have to look. :)
