I really enjoyed this post. I am leaving to work in Thailand for a few years and am always interested in sites to see while I am there.

The film that made it famous was filmed in what is now Sri Lanka in 1957.
It was, however, based on a real incident-but slandered the real commanding officer concerned - Lieutenant Colonel Philip Toosey- who did not collaborate with his Japanese captors at all, at any time.

Hi Paul
I have 2 questions: which are your sources where you get the information from? Just writing like thos doesn't sound very credible at all.
Would you allow me to translate your article to German to send it to my friends?
Martin

I´m glad to see Kanchanaburi in Your blogs. I travel twice a year to Thailand and everytime spend a week or two in Kanchanaburi (and surroundings). There´s quite a lot to see, and the area is quite laid back and relaxed. Thank´s again, I always enjoy reading Your stories, keep on writing!

It's normal if someone writes about historic "facts" that you name your sources. Since you haven't been there yourself when it happened right? It's not scientific to say, it was like this or that, without mentioning where you got that information from.
