« Anniversary of King Rama VI's Death5 Million Baht Toilet at Thai Temple »
I follow the national antheme project when I am at a food shop every evening, but never thought so much about it.

After reading, I think I will try to take part in the last round in Bangkok. Thanks for the good article.

I can not imagine such an obviously nationally empowering thing like this happening in the UK.
Amazing.

I can understan why the Thais are doing this, with all the red-yellow tensions, but do Thailand really need more nationalism?

Lots of massmovements going on in Thailand. Here in Chiang Mai we will see a huge tambon for monks on saturday 28th. 10000 monks in Nimmanhemin..

"with the intention to promote unity and patriotism"

Yeah, because that's what Thailand needs. More nationalism...

Hi!

The article makes for a very interesting read and reminded of my very first visit to Thailand in December of 1999:

On the occasion of the King's Birthday loads of people were lining the streets of Bangkok and I was handed a candle. Before I realized what would happen next they all started singing for their King.

Rookie tourist that I was at the time, I dared to think about walking on while they were singing. Reading my body language an older Thai gentleman gave me a rather stern look and I dropped the thought. ;-) After they were finished singing the same gentleman gave me a nod and a very warm smile.

Amazing Thailand!

Yup the reds and yellows must unite against the khmer threat!!
I'll bet the Generals are rubbing their hands in glee at this.

I hadn't heard about this (guess you can tell I don't watch Thai TV :-) Very cool though - I think it's a great idea!
