I remember this crash on the news like it was yesterday. Thanks Steve for you update. back in 1991 lauda was a very new airline with relatively new aircraft and with only about 4 aircraft. I was horrified that such an airline could have crashed.

Great Job, Stephen! I recall that I had flown out from Bangkok on United Airlines earlier that day and arrived in Hawaii for a holiday when I heard the news. This was shortly after the first Gulf War and tensions were still high. Warnings that US airliners were possible targets of Iraqi sympathizers were in effect, so initial speculation was that a bomb had brought down Lauda Air - a bomb that was intended for UA. It certainly gave me something to ponder on my holiday.

Thanks a lot for the information about the cemetry. I found by chance the youtube video you mention, then googled for the cemetry and found this blog entry.

I did not know any of the people who were on board, but I remember the day on which my University (Innsbruck) learned that it had lost students and the greater part of one of its institutes' staff.

Regards,

Tina
