As it turns out one of my classmates were a victim of the gem scam in Bangkok roughly ten years ago. I was surprised as this girl travelled whole world alone, including some of the worlds most dangerous places.

To her defence it was her first time going abroad at 18 years.

She told me everything and what surprised me more was the number of farangs involved.

She listed

1) an american student. Or at least a young guy who spoke with american accent

2) a german family. Two adults, two kids who all spoke german!

3) an retired british lady, roughly in her 60s whose looks, much like the english gentleman, was someone you dont doubt for a second.

They were all pushing my classmate to buy, telling her how great it was and that they financed their visits to Thailand this way.

I guess the last statement was quite accurate.
