What a strange shape it is. from the air it looks like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. It is a shame something sensible-for example a wetland nature park or similar is made of it-but I guess it has a certain character as it is.

Maybe its a victim of the 1997 recession. Looks like someone had a grandiose plan and then ran out of money - just like those abandoned skyscrapers in BKK

Using the timeline function in Google Earth it shows that the lake and buildings were there in the same state in December 2002 already, which is the oldest available imaginary of that area.

I once visited the site after spotting it on Google Earth and from the river bank going to the floating market. It's possible to walk along the raised pathways beside the river and after many twists and turns arrive at the old building.

There was an old caretaker who told me the building was going to be an hotel, but the developers disappeared years ago.

My personal theory is Martin Bormann and friends were looking for a final sanctuary and invested the last of their loot on a riverside lodge with suitably themed lake/marina. When Bormann died, his remaining friends decided to save what was left of their money and retire to Pattaya.
