Nice pictures. Reminds me of a similar festival in South Korea. I have never really thought of going to Hat Yai before though have seen it mentioned many times on the Internet. I look forward to seeing more of your travel blogs.

The Lantern Festival also officially marks the end of the Chinese Lunar New Year and first fullmoon night of the lunar calendar.

Traditionally it was also the only day in the year when good Chinese maidens could venture out and be seen by the eligible single guys.
