Very interesting read, Richard.
Have you taught anyone that has subsequently become famous in Thailand or beyond?
(With the exception of "Gor", of course!)

Thanks for the personal insight. I'm a big fan of your blogs and an even bigger fan of your general attitude. So refreshing compared to the jaded and cynical expat rubbish you read elsewhere. I also think you take a decent photo. Congratulations on the anniversary.

I just discovered the wonderful forum yesterday and was wondering who Richard Barrow was. Thanks for sharing a great story. My wife and I would go back to Thailand in a heartbeat if I wasn't in a wheelchair with an disease that started in Thailand in 2001. Our job in the US Peace Corps was to assist the Thai government with introducing student centered teaching. We were practice teaching 4th and 5th graders in a village school and know what that is like. To set up team teaching with a Thai teacher I actually needed an interpreter. She totally ignored everthing, just stood in the back and coached her students. :(

Hi Richard, I have been reading your blogs with interest....I am a first grade teacher in a public school, and I want to volunteer my time in Thailand (or Vietnam) in the summer. Unfortunately, I didn't get that part of the plan together soon enough for this year, but my husband, a college instructor, and I are traveling around Thailand for 3 weeks this July (i've been there before, but it was over 20 years ago). If there was an opportunity to meet you, would love to do so if it works out with everyone....maybe come out to teach next summer......thanks for your great blogs!
