In my country, the Chinese people would crowd eagerly outside the temple waiting for the gates to be opened. At the stroke of midnight, they would all rush in to put their joss sticks in the temple's urn. It is thought to bring them good luck.

Your picture of the Chinese Opera reminded me of when I was young growing up in Phitsanuloke. We lived close to a Chinese temple so I was always there during Chinese New Year, sitting in the front row and watching the Chinese opera for days on end without understanding a word of it!
