Another really useful blog Richard. Always worth pointing out why farang are not always greeted with a cheerful smile. Many probably don't realise, or care, that the waitress who serves them breakfast at 7.00am was probably working til well past midnight before catching a few hours kip on the restaurant floor.

Do you know where I can find bus routes from airport? In the past I have always had a reason to stay in Bangkok. Getting UK visa for Kai, registering marriage.

Next time I can get out in March it will be for the birth of our baby so I just want to get to Phetchabun as quickly as possible.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I planed in before reading your post. We had deliberaely joined the shortest queue, but which later turned out to be the slowest! And, yes, the lady manning the desk looked grumpy. She whisked away the guy in front of me, which made me step forward, but but that got me a thundering "Not yet!" that not only jolted me but also woke me up (It was about 3 a.m.). It turned out the guy ahead of me needed to get something from his companions. Everybody looked a me like I had commited a crime!

Nice info as usual Richard.
I will leave US for Thailand tuesday and put your info to good use. You know, I will still miss the old airport when I walk through the new one.

One suggestion from me: For those who need a visa to Thailand do not opt for 'Visa on Arrival' unless you are good at handling queues and first time directions. It can take forever and ever. First you fill in the form, and than you fight for the one stapler to stick your photo on, than you wait, than you find you need to get it stamped, than you find that its only thai currency required, than you finally get it checked again, and then you get your queue number 190 and than you feel happy until you see that the current queue status is at 61!! And than you sit wondering ... which part of the world you belong to... LOLz...

Sometimes, it can be scary to use taxi (or other public transportations) if we are not familiar. I've been 2 times to Bangkok and all the time, I made transportation arrangement before so I need not to worry though it cost me more expensive.

i recently visited thailand and used the new airport for the first time, being a little disabled i was treated with great respect, an officer pulled me out of the line and led me through the thai passport section to avoid me waiting in such a long line, i will be eternally grateful for the kindness i was shown
