If the Monks do get the extra money to finish the sea wall, are they not just moving the flood problem to somewhere possibly less able to cope with it? The water has to go somewhere! One can only hope that it takes a long time to raise the money required in this particular case.

Once the sea wall has been raised and the water pumped out, because the temple grounds at high tide are some times below sea level, if there is a big storm at high tide, this area may flood again just like what happened to New Orleans. I think the most beneficial reason of the sea wall will be to stop the pounding of the waves against the temple, as in a big storm the building could be demolished by huge waves.

Just wondering, has anyone thought about replanting the mangroves or is it to late?

There are two sea walls. The first is designed to break up the waves. The second one, in the picture, is cosmetic and is for tourists. There have been studies that show that limited sea walls actually do more damage to the coastline on either side.

They are replanting mangroves. But, they grow at a slow rate. It was quicker for them to rip them up to build the shrimp farms than it is to replant.

Unfortunatly that is true people tend to rather give money to the monks that directly to help people. But commonly no one knows where the money goes. And also here the people believe it will be used to help others.
