Great write-up superman. My dad too went to Phuket in the mid-70s and in those days, getting there was certainly not by air, but in the slightly less comfortable hours long journey by train and bus from Penang. We went to Phuket last year and the change that took place in these 30 years shocked him.

Yes Gotland, I am wrong about the name and nationality of the Skandia bungalow owner!

Sorry, it's been years, most called him "Papa", but you would know best, thanks again.

btw, are you the famous "Gotland" that later moved from the beach shack near Scandia to the "Gotland Bar" on Soi Bangla, I think your bar was near the "German Video Bar" or Valentine Market?

I'm sure you recognized the picture of Sam??

Gotland, maybe you know of the man that had the "UBoat Bar", I wrote a story about his submarine he was building on the shores of Patong, near Loma Bar, but most here thought it was little more than a flashback...

If you have any pictures of those old days, please submit them. We'd all like to see your photo memories of Old Patong and know that you have many, many funny stories of a time when things were about perfect in Phuket!
