As I read your blog, I was trying to remember where things were and how it would look like now with this sky train all over the places. You see, I haven't been back to Thailand since 1987! May be it's time to visit. I think I would be like "ban nok khao krung!"

The last time I traveled on the sky train, was in 2002, when Britney Speres was popular and the sky train was plastid with Britney Speares advertising Pepsi all over the train. Not long after that she was court out drinking Coke.

I love the Sky Train. I would disagree with your advice to take a metered cab with a party of three or more. Only take a metered cab if you have hours to sit in traffic and inhale exhaust. A good plan is to take the Sky Train to the stop nearest your destination and then catch a metered cab; they wait at each Sky Train station for fares. The Sky Train is fast, cheap and relaxing.

I'm not too sure about Tom's idea here but i can think what he's trying to say. First, i can't understand the notion of inhaling exhaust for hours while sat in a metered taxi. The skytrain isn't always that comfortable or convenient. If you're not that fit you could find it quite exhausting climbing all the stairs....and then again. Next, during rush hour you find yourself as cramped as a sardine in a tin.

Personally, unless the destination of choice is near a Skytrain i won't take it.

Besides taxis, one of the quickest ways to travel a far distance these days in Greater Bangkok including Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathumthani etc....is by passenger van. For example, the last one i took from Siam Square to Pinklao took around half an hour. Quicker than if a i had taken the skytrain and then a taxi.

And what about the bus? The last time i went in direction of Soi Ornut from Ratchadamnoern Avenue i took an expressway bus and was there in again 30 minutes (front of Soi 50) a 5 minute bus ride and is was in front of Ornut station

There are plenty of convenient ways from getting from A to B in Bkk it just takes time to learn them.

Good information Richard. It's good to know this, especially if don't have time to explore for yourself. Next is the subway, right? Keep up the good work.
