(The following blog is a translation of a story which made national headlines in Thailand yesterday. And I am not joking!)

(The picture which shook the nation - Khunying posing with the sexy girls)
Khunying Chaisri Sri-arun, the top boss of the Cultural Ministry was astonished to find a small group of Rajaphat University students clad in sexy short skirts and tight top shirts, smoking cigarettes and chatting to black male tourists at Wat Pho yesterday!
Khunying stated that this kind of behaviour is ‘unsuitable’ for such girls at a holy place like the revered Wat Pho temple in Bangkok.
The Cultural Ministry, tipped off by a tour group of Thai tourists, were informed that 5 young ladies wearing sexy-short-tight university uniforms had been spotted chatting with ‘coloured’ male tourists. Outraged to receive such a call, Khunying called up the cameras and instantly flew to the scene, and right enough the girls were still there talking to the guys.
On asking the girls about such behaviour in a temple compounds, the girls obviously irritated retorted ‘I can wear what I want – I have freedom of rights’. Then, getting right cheeky, one of them had the nerve to get out a cigarette!

Pic from today's Thai Rath newspaper - the girls apologize)
Khunying next asked which university they were from and the girls replied ‘Rajaphat Dusit’. Khunying asked immediately that the girls be investigated on the possibility that they were in fact ‘fake students’ and were only prostitutes dressed in university uniforms to procur black male clientele.
The assistant abbot of Wat Pho explained that the temple, open to the public, has scores of school and university students come to the place everyday to interview foreign tourists to practice their English and complete some English assignment. He said that this kind of dress was nothing new but there was nothing he could do besides place a sign in front of the temple reading ‘Please dress politely’.
The vice-director of Rajaphat University has issued an urgent investigation himself to decipher whether the sexy girls really were from his university. As he too claimed that many prostitutes liked to dress in the outfits from Rajaphat to coax foreign tourists. He went on to say, that his institution has strict dress policy and that all his students had to adhere to them.
Author's notes: After a thorough investigation, it was found out that the girls were in fact 'real students' just wanting to practice their English, and not.... out to score 2,000 baht for a quick session with the 'black guys' at a nearby short-time motel.

As for my stance on this - you have to delve deeper into the matter. And personally i disagree that Bangkok's universities strictly enforce any dress regulations!
*LOL* Is that the rate nowadays?!

Yeah me too. Just look at Japan.... they've the kinkiest uniforms but don't see them having any major social problems. :p
Do you know which number bus to take from Sukhumvit road?
Noi
What is the use of stopping them....culture is the matter of attitude....problem here is your old fashion attitude...you will someday found this crazy immoral staffs overwhelming and you will found yourself an idiot!!!
@Gao
Your attitude is just so...
1. the girl had dressed more properly in the wat.
2. Khun ying hadnt doubted the girl as being a prostitute
3. the skin of the tourist hadnt been mentioned...the news made me feel that the matter was worsened because the toursit was black
4. the media hadnt quickly judged the girl moral standard...and hadnt given all right to any authority to judge anybody's value
or behavior
The bothersome part of the story is that these girls don't know any better than to dress and behave like that at a temple. They have plenty of places to be fashionable and dress sexily. They just have no dignity to do it at a temple.
We, Thai, already know that if we are to go to a temple, we should dress properly. So that we do not provoke the monks to think of worldly matter. Also, it'd in a way reflect self-respect of the person, esp. Thai girl.
The problem is the Monks themselves lead the Thai to misbehaving by their own example. Drug dealing, rape, scam and womanizing are just a few examples the Thai Monks give the Thai public.
It is common practice to scam and cheat tourists at some of the more known Wats in Bangkok. Charging admission to foreign tourists for visiting the Wat sets the tone for more of the same. Most every Thai knows it is against the Buddha teaching to charge admission to Wat but the greedy Monks and Government officials don't see it that way. But how would you like it if when you visit your place of worship they asked 250 baht at the gate? Some white and black are Buddhist too!
Let me guess, you left America because things got too "liberal" for you. The minorities were taking over and you felt like you just didn't fit in. Your side was losing or being diminished and you just couldn't stand the injustice of it anymore. So you came to Thailand where a woman will wash your feet for you and clip your toenails. You feel like a man again.
Looking back on your time in America, you feel that your new perspective makes it all too clear just how screwed up things got back there. What's more, there's no worry about anyone here thinking your a kook or a mouth-frothing bigot, because nobody here understands what the hell you're saying, and are likely to nod in agreement even when they do just so that you don't lose face.
Your chest has swelled and you're ready to shout your views from the rooftops.
Only here we're not as far detached from reality as you are. Here we still respect people and wouldn't use a word like monkeys to describe a race of them. Here we recognize that black people in Thailand don't deserve an idiot like you coming online and labeling them all drug dealers because you're an expert on such matters since three blacks once tried to sell you drugs in Japan some time ago.
Your ignorance is galling and when people say that society is moving forward, they mean that is moving past people like you. Keep your views for the woman clipping your toenails. She's probably used to them by now.
They can practice English with me any time. Ha ha.
