Richard, you do write on a variety of interesting topics. However, this was one that could have been avoided. I found it gross!!!

Too right, pretty gross! But it is only a true account of what kinda thing used to happen in the past. Interesting.

I do find extracts from contemporary books of accounts like this one to be useful in helping our understanding of Thai culture today. You need to know where you are coming from in order to fully understand where you are going.

Public beheading is gross? Who'd have thunk it, dude.

Interesting read, especially with Saddam's execution so fresh in the mind.

Yes, that is the book I mentioned in the blog. I was planning on typing up some extracts. However, Gor has now borrowed the book and I probably won't be able to get it back for a while now.

My great-uncle, on my grandmother's side, was an executioner of the King in Thailand. My mother claims that he would bring his sword with him everywhere and they hated it when he would come to their house, because the women swore they could hear the voices of his victims coming from the sword.
