Thank you very much for the pictures and story Richard. I've seen nothing on local TV or on the paper. They did mention it on the radio, but then said they were crossing to Bank-ket (or what it Phu-kok?)...

I guess it's the usual case of good news just not getting a mention. Keep sending us good news...

Today I was fortunate enough to see most of this on a recording from Thai TV (our Temple gets it off a satellite). The pictures above just don't do justice to the scale of the crowd, which was awe inspiring. And the closeups of people in the crowd fighting back tears was very touching.

It was also very interesting to see the King paying homage to the monks earlier in the proceedings.

I am happy to live in Thailand -
happy to know his Majesty the King of Thailand (not personal). I am not from Thailand but I think everybody who had the opportunity to listen to the speeches of King Bhumibol Adulyadej will love him from all they heard.
He is the best person ever and even I feel like he is my father too.
Long Live Our Father King Bhumibol Adulyadej!!!

With love,

Constanze.

Hello Mike, All my neigbours were crying in front of the television too. Additional to the love all the Thai people feel, it also was the weather. Before the King arrived at the place, the weather was sunny and hot. You could not see all of the yellow shirts, because there were a lot of umbrellas open. As the King arrived, the weather changed. There were clouds and it was windy…..after the King left, the sun came back. You as a Farang will not see this signs but for all of the Thais it was like a little miracle. Constanze.

For those who have never read up on His Majesty Bhumipol Adulyadej, here is a man who is virtually unparalleled in the history of western rulers/presidents. Here is a man that has truely dedicated his life to making life better for the common people. He is truely a "Rennaisance Man" in all senses of the word. We would be in a much better situation in America if we had someone of His Majesty's character in the White House.

Long Live His Majesty Bhumipol Adulydej. May the Chakri Dynasty reign in dignity and justice for many years to come.

Long Live The King

I love how the Thais unite for the King. It's one of those little times that make me proud to be a part of all of this.

Thais have genuine love for the King I just don't understand why it is so difficult for others to believe.

G'day, I have been trying to find a copy (in English) of the King's recent reflections on living a good life. The one about the 'Up Country Rice Farmer' Versus The Ruthless, greedy Big City CEO.

The Thais made a short 10 minute play about it and staged it in Muang Thong Thani during the Kings 60th Anniversay celebrations. Can anyone help? (Maybe it is already here and I just can't find it!

I am an Ex Pat Australian who first arrived in the Kingdom by way of the Royal Australian Navy, as a naieve 16 year old Seaman, in 1970. I am 53 now and I am still here! This is an excellent site!

Long Live The King!

Sawasdee Krap.
