A huge celebration today in London with a parade that went to Trafalgar Square before heading for China Town, watched by thousands of non-chinese. Big firework display later.
Same in Birmingham and elsewhere. Chinese New Year is becoming very popular in the UK.

Having celebrated Chinese New Year for the last 17 years of my life in Singapore as a Chinese Singaporean, I would like to experience CNY in another country soon, knowing how fellow overseas Chinese celebrate CNY. An estimated 30-60 million Overseas Chinese in 6 continents, I have to get started soon. lol! Happy Chinese New Year everyone. And to the owner of this blog, I have enjoyed reading all your blog entries. Thank you!

Hi Han, I spent my CNY in Haadyai with my family. The center of attraction is a Chinese secondary school, Sri Nakhon School 国光中学, a walking distance from downtown tourist area. Quite an experience.
By the way, the Hokkien/Teowchiew Singaporean/Malaysian/Thai refer to new year as "sinchea" 新正 meaning NEW FIRST MONTH as 正月 means first month of lunar calendar. Ironically, I learn this when I saw the postal / Banner in Haadyai. Ask you friends in Singapore and many may not know how to write "sinchea"
新正如意

Hi KhunChin, "Zheng Yue" is written by Chinese all over the world I guess and there are no differences here. And even in Singapore, we simple wish each other "Xin Nian Kuai Le" or "Xin Nian Ru Yi" We reserve the term " Zheng Yue" only when refering to the first month of the lunar calender. but I have heard many Thais mention 新正如意 so maybe this is the Thai Chinese way of wishing one another?

Are you a Thai Chinese btw?=)

Great Article! I'm from California and this year I will be spending my Chinese New Year in Qingdao, China. This is the Year of the Pig (2007) and New Years Day falls on February 18th. Next year I would like to celebrate it in Thailand.
