wish I had found this site earlier. My daughter and her friend are travelling and you offer so much info. They spent Xmas day there and are now off to Chiang Mai. They will leave Jan 7th

Normal price for elephantride is only 250b. But the guides arrange this price so they can get half of your money back in commision when you leave for a ride. For big groups 20-30 pax, they make a real good day sallary. But for foreigners - its still cheap.

On tour, with foriegners - all is paid twice because of the return commision. So is life here.

It was going so well until the Tiger Temple was recommended - this place has been proven to be involved in illegal tiger trading with Laos, and to abuse it's tigers.

I would not recommend for tourists to go there, particularly if you're an animal lover. I went previously and found it very upsetting.

Erawan Falls and the War Museum are worth a visit though :)
