The Kratong may lie in the pool.... but its spirit will carry you far!!!

I could almost video you through this event. Thanks!

Hi David,
I'm a Thai girl in DC. I think we might meet each other at Wat Thai, DC. I'm impressed when I visit your blog, which is about Thai. I'm doing photo blogs for Wat Thai, DC. as well (the one that you got from a monk, and thanks to help us promote the web).
Thanks again!

"My favorite was the Royal Barge, cool huh? And it came in Second Place too!"
Also, may I correct this? Actually, 'the Royal Barge' won the first place of 'Creative' prize. ^_^
(my family and friends made it) ;-)

Oh dear lord. You guys should definitely visit my Thailand album on Flickr then. Check out these "Kratong" entries at the Oriental staff competition last year.

Golf -

Thanks for your comments. You did a great job on the photo blog for Wat Thai and I am glad to help promote it.

Thanks also for the correction and my apologies for my mistake. I edited my blog so your friends get the proper credit for coming in first place. I guess I was too busy taking pictures to take notes on some of the details that night. :-P

Great pictures, Oakmonster, and those of Chiang Mai Wats as well - did they launch the ice Stupas as well or were they considered a hazard to shipping, a' la "Titanic" ? :-))

Being outdoor in Thailand, it didn't take long for the ice stupas to become the STUMPas. It's impossible to have a Titanic-esque situation in the Chao Phrya! Nonetheles, the ice stayed on the lawn. :)

If they were to float the giant kratong out into the river, now THAT's a Titanic waiting to happen. But fortunately for everyone, those beautiful creations safely floated about the pool.

Hi Oakley!

Thanks for the links, those Kratongs in your pics sure make ours look kinda wimpy. At least if you just look at the sheer size but I think we did a pretty alright job on the creative end.

I loved the pic of the Loy Kratong Northern style now that's really cool! :-)
