Tell Panrit best of luck that 'Gor' dies a good death so a new life will begin for him. My best wishes and support are with him.

It's too bad I am not in Thailand now since my background is in books and sales I had once upon a time wondered if the online bookstore needed more staff. Now I know ;)

Just like to write a note there on the sand castles (sand pagodas) and the reason behind such a tradition.

Thais at Songran take back to the temple the sand which they have accidentally 'taken' away the year before ie the sand that got stuck to their shoes before they left the temple.

Thats it!

Forgot to write just one more thing: a farang friend of mine came up with a tricky question over Songran and that was "Where does the tradition of smearing powder over folks' faces come from?"

I can answer that: it is not a tradition really. the plausable answer can be "Its an excuse to touch a stranger". It is against Thai tradition for a man to touch a young female who he doesnt really know but at Songran he can go touching the cheeks of as many young girls that he feels fit!

Thats it!

Thanks Steve, I forgot to mention how the tradition started. However, at all the temples that I visited over songkran, the sand was delivered by dumper trucks! So, the temples are actually helping the people make merit.

I just came back to download all the photos I took today (about 400 pics) and to do some quick charging. I am using all three digital cameras at the moment. Then I am going out to take some more photos. There is a lot going on this week. I am trying to confirm when Songkran will be celebrated at Phrapradaeng. I thought it was going to be next week but someone said to me today that it is this weekend!
