I wanted to go there. But I had to spend the weekend with a branch of friends in Bangkok instead. Sadly I missed it.

Have you got photos from the music festival to post Richard ? They would be interesting to see. I also wanted to go, but wasn't organised enough to book accommodation in time - oh well, maybe next year! At least there are plenty of smaller concerts about though, and http://www.thaipoppers.com/live/ is a great site that keeps an up-to-date listing of them (Bangkok area only). Their information seems to be pretty accurate too, I've managed to see concerts of Clash, Big Ass, Hyper, Micro, Silly Fools and some others from their listings and they haven't let me down yet. In my experience the concerts are usually free or relatively inexpensive (100B-200B) to enter.

Hi Mike. No, I didn't get pictures of the concert though it was my original intention. Just too many people there. However, I did record it on tv and will watch it in more comfort later! Thanks for the link - an intersting site.

Thanks for the report about the zoo between Bangkok and Pattaya, which I have wanted to visit for many years. Sounds very good, aside from the conditions of the big cats....but what can anyone do to improve their situation? And those tigers at Tiger Temple near Kanchanaburi? Are they given drugs to calm them down, and does anyone in Thailand really care? Have you been there?

Hi Carl. Nice to hear from you. I think the problem here is the thin line between allowing the animals to live in a "natural' habitat and also making it safe for zoo visitors. I am not totally against zoos because it is an excellent way to educate people who do not have the means to visit and study these animals in the wild. However, I think the zoo owners have a responsibility to provide these animals with a healthy environment. If they cannot do that then they shouldn't put them on "display". Animals have rights too.

Well, the way we can help is not support places that mistreat animals in such a way. However, I wouldn't put Khao Khiao Open Zoo in that category as it is at least making an effort to look after the animals with the limited funds they have. The entrance fee was only just over $1 and there weren't that many people there despite the fact that it was summer holidays.

One place that I think should be blacklisted is the Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan. They charge a lot more to foreign tourists and there is no evidence that they spend this money on the well-being of the animals. I will be writing more about this place later.

No, I haven't been to the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi. Not yet anyway. I think the original idea behind this was interesting in that the monks were looking after tigers. However, recent reports suggest that the monks are now bowing to the pressure of government safety measures so the tigers are probably not "roaming" the temple grounds any more. I wouldn't be surprised if they did dope the tigers. By the sound of it, the place is probably a low budget zoo now. But, I will reserve judgment until I can go and see it for myself.

I wish they had a SEAWORLD in Thailand. They're already too many of dryland animals' zoos around. A nice authentic funky looking branch of SEAWORLD would be great. Unlike the filthy one in Pattaya. I believe I have been to KHAO GREEN zoo once in my life time some 13 years ago and the Dusit zoo. For a moment I thought Safari World was the best but it kinda got greasy in the end. Oh well. Why not also open a branch of SAN DIEGO zoo in Thailand. That'd be FAB!

I've been to his zoo quite a few times. It’s a very relaxing place!
