if im not mistaken King Rama V was not the banned movie. the King Rama VI was "The King and I"

No, King Rama VI was the first king to be educated abroad - in England to be exact. King Rama V - Chulalongkorn - was the boy in the movie. King Rama IV was the king in the movie.

King Chulalongkorn also has a statue in Chiang Mai within the walls of the riverside Wat Mongkon to which people come daily to pay their respects.

Again, a custom that really upsets me. Supersticious Thais are eagerly worshipping pictures of Rama V, but they do not learn from Him at all. He, a great king indeed, not only abolished slavery etc. but had a vision to see his country civilized. TOgay, 100 years later, the violation of human rights and the misuse of power by various institutions are far from civilization. Like the present King, Rama V showed a way how to live the "golden" middle way, but look at the modern society. People still not get his message, but instead put incence in front of his pictures.
