There is a Thai superstition that if you and your lover are born on the correct days then you will have a long and happy marriage.
These combinations will succeed:
A man born on Sunday and a woman born on Monday (and vice versa)
A man born on Friday and a woman born on Tuesday (and vice versa)
A man born on Thursday and a woman born on Sunday (and vice versa)
A man born on Wednesday and a woman born on Saturday (and vice versa)
A man born on Monday and a woman born on Saturday (and vice versa)
A man born on Wednesday and a woman born on Monday (and vice versa)
A man born on Friday and a woman born on Sunday (and vice versa)
These combinations will not succeed at all:
People born on Monday and Thursday
People born on Sunday and Tuesday
People born on Friday and Saturday
People born on Wednesday and Wednesday

Another way to match couples is through the Thai horoscope for the year of birth. I will tell you more about that later.

Hi Richard,
Do you know anything about what day of the week relates to a person’s nickname ? I just ask as some friends decided I’d been in Thailand long enough to need a Thai nickname and the first thing they wanted to know in order to choose was what day of the week I was born on. I don’t know if there is a tradition of certain names being associated with certain days or something similar.
BTW, on the site at the moment it seems we can’t highlight any of the text or right click anywhere ? Makes the site very frustrating to use
I am not sure about nicknames as usually not a lot of importance is given to them. For example, Gor picked “Grace” for his daughter from a shortlist of names sent in by forum members. (And also because he likes the American sitcom “Will & Grace”.) His own nickname was a combination of his parents’ names. Another blogger here called Sakdiapt has a nickname of Game because he was born the year the SEA Games was held in Thailand.
However, what happens with “real” names is that you tell your family monk/fortune teller the day you were born and he will tell you the letters which should be used to make up your name (also which letters not to use). Maybe your friends want to create a nickname for you using this method. I will blog more about this soon.
EXTREMELY UNTRUE!
My parents are born on Sunday and Tuesday and they’ve been married happily for over 20 years now. Still they are happy and fullfilled, these kind of hoax doesn’t do anything but make people feel pesimistic.
And what about if there is a young couple who were born on Wednesday and Wednesday and they’ve been genuinely loving each other for a long time already and have just heard of this “THAI SUPERSTITION” which I’ve never heard? Can you wholeheartly guarantee their relationship won’t work, even if they HAS in the past before they know about this?
How do you imagine to move into the 21st century with such superstions bearing in mind?
It is amusing to see someone react so seriously when we are talking about superstition. Richard is pointing out an element of Thai culture (that some people choose to believe) that many of us find interesting. I would say, given the generally friendly, patient, and accepting nature of the Thais, that they are doing better than most at creating a peaceful, happy environment.

Hey, this is cool. But you didn’t talk about what day matches with a girl born on Friday. Who do I match with?
I feel sorry for any man born on Tuesday!
Yo have nice site, admin! keep up good work man!

What about Tuesday & Tuesday? & what’s wrong with a man being born on a Tuesday?
What are each day suppose to mean in the Thai Culture? BECAUSE.. one what about their children being born on a certain. I have one son born on a Thursday & my youngest born on a Tuesday which is causing a conflict with my husband & I’s spirit according to my mother…..
